DESCRIPTION

They drifted from shore to shore long before sea currents began to move islands of plastic. Nobody knew where they came from, so they fired the imagination even more. Over time, expert knowledge replaced all presumptions, including those of their satanic origins. The seeds were given a taxonomic identity after their relationship to one of the world’s rarest palms, the Seychelles lodoicea, also known as coco de mer, was discovered. Due to their form, coco de mer seeds are compared to beautiful buttocks or female hips. These curvaceous shapes leave JLo’s bum far in the shadows with her famous multi-million dollar insurance. A DIY Venus of Willendorf model can be easily made from coco de mer seeds, especially if you are skilled at making chestnut figures. Magdalena Lazar breaks the seed bank to create a rhizomatic network without beginning and end. The installation drifting in the space of the gallery becomes a starting point for reflection on social problems related to the reproduction of human life and environmental management. The artist juxtaposes shady interests of states and corporations with the eternal order of nature in order to consider to what extent the adaptation of population phenomena to economic processes, which Foucault wrote about, can be considered a key element of contemporary biopolitics. What if you ended the sentence “other pacts are possible” with a full stop instead of a question mark?
