Event description

Jan Szancenbach (1928-1998), a representative of colorism, for many years a lecturer and the rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, described himself as a cheerful pessimist. His paintings are full of joy, light, and color. He must have been a pessimist really deep inside, as his family, students and coworkers have always told about him as an unusually delicate and friendly person. The exhibition consists of works from the artist’s own collection. Szancenbach painted mostly using oil colors, and the works on paper – watercolors, gouaches, and drawings were mostly created for his own use. May this exhibition be a leap into the private, personal world of the artist and a way to get to know his reality. Among presented compositions, the spectators will find dynamic representations of athletes and dancers, intimate portraits of people close to the artists, cityscapes, landscapes and still lifes.

Gallery description

The CONNAISSEUR Art Salon is a gallery with over 25 years of art market experience, functioning non-stop since 1991. From the beginning our gallery was located in the very heart of Cracow – now at number 7 Main Market Square in the Montelupi House. Our gallery is a member of Confederation Internationale des Negociants en Oeuvres d’Art (CINOA) and the Association of Polish Antique and Art Dealers (SAMP).
We specialize in Polish painters of XIX and XXth century, but we also have a selection of works by European painters and graphics, sculpture and artistic craft.
