Event description

Dressing gown from Ikea / Lacrimae rerum – is a vanitative exhibition consisting of a series of funeral pictures painted since 2013 which for the Artist are a way to think about death. Kawiorski took inspiration for this work from the death of his wife and mourning after that. He reached to the means and motifs that allowed him to universalize private, intimate experiences. Kawiorski painted a series of monumental still life pictures in which ‘objects cry’, as in Virgil’s ‘Sunt lacrimae rerum’

Description of the place

Rostworowski gallery is an exhibition space functioning occasionally once in a few years (exhibition of paintings by Władysław Matlęga in 2015 and graphics by Lana Aronson from Israel in 2019). Before that the space was a home for Dominik Rostworowski Gallery, which for 20 years promoted and presented contemporary art, mostly created by artists from Cracow. Jarosław Kawiorski has had multiple exhibition at Dominik Rostworowski’s gallery, so it was natural to show his new exhibition here. The gallery is located in Popiel’s Palace and consists of three rooms in a gothic basement.
