Description
Mirroring is a type of behavior in which one person unconsciously imitates a gesture, a type of speech articulation, or the posture of another. The mirror neurons responsible for the ability to recognize other people’s emotions and intentions are responsible for this mechanism, which results in the feeling of belonging by making people similar to each other, believing that they represent similar attitudes and ideas. In Alek Janicki’s project, MIRRORING is a kind of interdisciplinary reflection on the human condition in which the background is the terror of the war in Ukraine.
Gallery info
Apteka Janicki Gallery is the younger sister of i! Gallery, Aleksander Janicki’s private gallery, the seat of the AYA Found, which combines artistic undertakings: exhibitions, concerts and performances with the social context. From the beginning, it was closely related to Janicki’s activities in Japan, including architectural, exhibition and performative activities. The LUNAR EXPERIMENTAL MODULE exhibition, recently presented in the gallery, was interrupted by the outbreak of war in Ukraine. Currently, the gallery works as a temporary home for refugees. The context of the current situation is illustrated by Alek Janicki’s multi-layered exhibition called Mirroring. Ukraine, Crimea, Odessa, Kraków… Japan is a microcosm captured in an immersive form of an interdisciplinary collage.
