Event description
During the opening the artists will be personally exploring the space, becoming a kind of medium (relating to Marshall McLuhan’s sentence The medium is the message) – the audience will be seeing the exhibition through the artist’s eyes. The author becomes a carrier for the content and influences the way it is being received by the visitors. After the exhibition closes a film made during the event will be posted on Projekt Kraków and Dworek Białoprądnicki Center of Culture’s fanpages.
The exhibition is a part of ‘Art? I take it!’ project, made in cooperation with Project Kraków Association and co financed with funds from Cracow’s ‘Kultura w sieci’ programme.
Gallery description
’Baszta’ gallery came to be in 2018 and is located in the basement of one of the Dworek Białoprądnicki Center of Culture at 2 Papiernicza street in Cracow. Artur Wabik, a visual artist based in Cracow is the curator of the gallery which in the years 2018-2019 presented 12 artistic events set in the context of this unique architectural space – the ruins of a XVI century tower under the care of the conservator. Invited artists created site-specific installations and performances. A common characteristic for all of the exhibitions taking place in the ‘Baszta’ gallery was their contemplative character. deriving from the specifics of the place. Underground, in an artificial light the times flows slowly and the temperature, sounds and scents are very different to those found outside. A cameral, almost intimate space where the limestone lining of the former tower is stretching, makes you reflect and look inside yourself.
