Event description
During the 10th edition of the Cracow Art Week KRAKERS: (NO)HOPE, in the face of the hope(less) situations and thinking that sometimes things that didn’t happen reveal the most, Łukasz Surowiec, Marta Romankiv and Łukasz Trzciński (Lotny Dom Wydawniczy) along with Kamil Kuitkowski (Cricoteka) are running a temporary publishing workshop in the undergrounds of Cricoteka. In the space between technical rooms, exhibition spaces, theater and right besides Kantor’s ‘Impossible statues’ the ‘Projects. Unrealized Art Histories’ publication will become reality. In this publication invited artists will express their hopes and sorrows that grew over the years. They will show evidence in the form of 101 projects, ideas, sketches and instructions that were never realized. Censored, sent back due to legal and political reasons, rejected in competitions, classified as uneasy, difficult in reception, contradicting social norms and values, too progressive, not fulfilling the expectations of the founders or just too expensive. This gesture of revealing might help in searching for alternatives through the alternative art history and a conversation about the further existence of hierarchical institutional structures and systems.
Profits made through selling the publication will be used to pay the artists’ fees.
Description of the place
Cricoteka was founded on Tadeusz Kantor’s initiative to be a live archive of the Cricot 2 Theater. Currently Cricoteka holds, presents and takes care of the collection of theater art from Kantor’s spectacles. It’s also a space for exhibitions, laboratories, concerts, plays, workshops and movie seances. The starting point for all activities in the Cricoteka are Kantor’s ideas, an artist known around the world and an initiator of new trends in art.
