DESCRIPTION
“Capism” inevitably rhymes with “Escapism.” However, instead of escaping, Samuel Kłoda in the”Vomit” exhibition seems to stuff his mouth with the academic tradition of “painterly painting.” He chews or digests some part of it, then he throws it up. This is how a painterly imaginarium is created, whose conventional reservoir of subjects crumbles under its own excess. Vases turn out to be haunted, bouquets poisoned, birds falsely sing. This bulimic painting grows out of a world of “too much,” in which if you drink, you drink yourself into a stupor, and if there’s a crisis, it’s not just one – until you vomit.
GALLERY INFO
Widna is an artist-run space oriented towards presenting the latest phenomena in the field of Polish art and confronting relevant issues of the contemporary times. Since its establishment in 2016, the gallery has been focused on close cooperation with artists and curators in the form of exhibitions and other formats such as publications, discussions and external collaborations. The gallery is run by Kinga Nowak and Michal Bratko. The activities of the space, located in Cracow’s Grzegórzki district, evolved from the founders’ previous experimental curatorial and publishing projects, with activities in the current art field.
