DESCRIPTION
Documentation of the performance during the Cracow Art Week KRAKERS will be available on https://www.wzzpsz.eu/
The work “We have all been inflamed with the desire to live a happy life” draws on experiences and reports of war, but at the same time recycles the canon of modern movement art in a creative way. The concept of the performance is based on the contrast between the principles of Rudolf von Laban’s choreology – which emphasizes individual expression in dance – and the hierarchical subordination and obedience inherent in military service. This solo performance is the first stage in the development of a collective performance that will be presented in a few months at C U at Sadtka gallery space. A film will then be made based on it. The Goethe-Institut in Cracow is a partner of the event.
GALLERY INFO
KUNS(Z)T Gallery has been operating since 2021. It is located at 34 Podgórska Street in Cracow in one of the two buildings of the Goethe-Institut Krakau. Since its establishment it has been operating in close cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. The neon sign on the façade of the gallery, designed by artist Mirosław Bałka, metaphorically refers to the history of “Art” both in the past and in the turbulent present. The name and the visual identity – the neon – leave room for multiple interpretations. KUNS(Z)T Gallery has held more than a dozen exhibitions and performative activities, which were a kind of commentary on the most pressing social issues.
